Grooved Pins are parallel pins with three equi-spaced longitudinal grooves. They are rolled or pressed into the cylindrical body to deform the pin stock outward within controlled limits. When this pin is forced into a drilled hole of proper diameter, a locking fit is obtained. Only a straight drilling hole is required and no reaming is needed.
Grooved Pins or Notch Pins are manufactured from C-40 (EN-8) material. They are supplied in soft condition and natural finish unless otherwise specified by the customer. Our manufacturing range for Grooved pins is from 2 to 16 mm in diameter and 5 to 150 mm in length.
Types of Grooved Pins
Groove Taper Pins Full Length
Groove Taper Pins ISO 8744 / DIN 1471 is a type of parallel pin with longitudinal tapering grooves along the full length of the pin. One of the advantages of using a groove pin DIN 1471 is that it is a relatively simple and low-cost solution for creating a secure connection between two parts. Additionally, the longitudinal groove on the length of the pin can help to provide a more secure fit, as it allows for additional grip on the sides of the hole in which the pin is inserted.
Half Length Grooved Taper Pins
Half Length Groove pins ISO 8745 / DIN 1472 is a standard groove pin which are used to secure two parts together. The standard specifies tolerances for these dimensions, as well as requirements for the hardness and surface finish of the pins. Half-length Taper Groove pins are available in a range of sizes, from 1.5mm to 20mm in diameter, and the length of the pin varies according to its application, generally from 5mm to 125 mm.
Full Length Grooved Pins (With Chamfer End)
These are Pins with Full length straight grooves and chamfered ends to facilitate smooth entry. The ISO 8740 and other equivalent standards like DIN 1473 EN 28740 specifies the dimensions and tolerances for this type of groove pins. Also called Cylindrical Grooved pins, they are available in a variety of sizes and lengths to accommodate different applications.
Socket Grooved Pins – Reverse Taper
Groove Pin ISO 8741 is a type of parallel pin that is widely used in various engineering and manufacturing applications. The material composition of Groove Pin ISO 8741 can vary depending on the application. Common materials used for manufacturing these pins include carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminium. The material selection depends on application, required strength, durability, and corrosion resistance.
Locking Grooved Pins – (Half Length Centre)
Half Length Centre Groove Pins as per ISO 8743 are used in assemblies where fitment required is in the central part of the pin. The pins may be heat-treated to enhance their strength, hardness, and durability. However, generally, pins are supplied in unhardened condition. Plating to improve surface protection is also an option. Finally, they undergo a thorough inspection and oiled before being packaged for distribution
Locking Grooved Pins – (Third Length Centre)
They are parallel pins with three equi-spaced grooves or notches and are commonly used in engineering and manufacturing applications. They can be made from a variety of materials, including Carbon steels, Stainless steels, Alloy steels, brass, etc. Hardening is an option but is generally avoided as it may affect the fitment of the pin in the hole. Further, a softer material is preferred to prevent damage to the mating workpiece.
Round Head Grooved Pins (Rivet)
These pins are of the rivet type, and are designed to be permanently fixed and not intended for frequent disassembly. DIN 1476 Round Head Grooved Pins find extensive usage across diverse industries. In automotive manufacturing, these pins are utilized for securing and fastening various components, such as transmission systems, body structures, name plates.
